Developed as a teleplay written by Coslough Johnson from a story written by Johnson and Sid Dorfman, the episode, which was directed by Gerren Keith, premiered on CBS-TV, originally airing on October 27, 1976.

SynopsisEdit

Alderman Davis (Albert Reed, Jr. in his first series appearance) serves an eviction notice to the Evanses when J.J. refuses to help him with his re-election campaign.

StorylineEdit

A local politician wants JJs help for his campaign. Since JJ does not like the man, he refuses. The politician threatens to have them evicted from their apartment.

Plot summaryEdit

J.J. (Jimmie Walker) is invited to speak at a re-election campaign rally for fatuous local alderman Fred Davis (Albert Reed). Correctly sensing that Davis is several miles removed from honesty, J.J. refuses the invitation. The result: intense political pressure, and a terse eviction notice for J.J.'s nonplussed mom, Florida (Esther Rolle).
