Florida's Homecoming: Part 2 is the first episode of Season 6 of Good Times, and also the 111th episode overall; it is part of a four-episode story arc. Written by Joseph Bonaduce and Sid Dorfman as a teleplay developed from an original story from them and Norman Paul, the episode, which was directed by Gerren Keith, premiered on CBS-TV, first airing on September 16, 1978. The episode, along with Part 1 of the story arc, aired as a one-hour, two episode special season premiere.
Synopsis
Florida moves back home to help plan the wedding, but Thelma's wedding jitters are getting too much for her to handle. To make matters worse, J.J. gets fired.
Storyline
With Florida back in town, everyone is excited about her return and Thelma's upcoming wedding. However, Thelma gets nervous and is not sure if she wants to marry Keith. Also, JJ is let go from his job.==
Plot summary
In the second half of Good Times' sixth-season opener, the Evans kids are celebrating the return of their mother, Florida (Esther Rolle), who has come back to attend the wedding between her daughter, Thelma (BernNadette Stanis), and up-and-coming football player Keith Anderson (Ben Powers). The combination of the impending nuptials and Keith's anticipated big-bucks contract with the Chicago Bears does not prevent Thelma from having second thoughts about tying the knot. And another crisis is looming on the horizon: Having lost his job, Thelma's brother J.J. (Jimmie Walker) may not be able to afford a big wedding. Originally telecast as a single one-hour episode, "Florida's Homecoming" has since been re-edited as two half-hours for syndication purposes.
